We are writing this during the time of year where gift-giving is abundant, but this list applies year-round! If you are a plant lover, you know a plant lover, or are beginning to become a plant lover, the following items are some of our favorite things to make plant parenting fun, easy and enjoyable. Your plants will love you for it.

Light Meter

The winter months can create a drop in natural light for your indoor plants. While most plants go dormant during this time of year, they still need light in order to survive and thrive. A light meter will help you ensure your plant is getting the amount of light it needs, year-round. Light meters used to be extremely expensive, but these options are affordable and give you a better sense of what kind of light your plant is getting.

Soil Moisture Meter

The “finger test” is the standard test most plant experts will tell you to determine whether your plant needs to be watered, but it’s not foolproof. Having a soil moisture meter can help you determine just how dry the soil is and whether your plant needs more nutrients. These are relatively cheap and give that extra edge in caring for your plants properly.

Grow Light

Our homes don’t always provide the best light, even if we try, and our plants suffer. Grow lights provide enough light so that your plant can undergo photosynthesis which gives them the energy to grow. This light has a timer so you can program it if you are away for a few days, ensuring your plant gets all the care it needs.

Plant Food + Protection

It’s happened to us all. We bring a new plant home and within weeks it is dying. Or, you’ve discovered it has pests. Bringing new plants into your home requires a little bit of extra care. We’ll write a whole post about that (stay tuned!), but for now, the best thing you can do for your new plant and existing plants are my two go-tos:

  1. Plant Protection - our favorite protection and pest control is Mighty Mint. It comes in a 32 oz. bottle so it lasts a while and it is safe for plants, people and pets. You can spray this on your new plant to combat any pests or common plant issues (including fungus) and it also serves as a protectant if other plants it comes in contact with has pests.

  2. Plant Food - if your plant is having trouble absorbing enough nutrients, has undergone stress or you want to give it a little boost to grow, Dynomyco is the best on the market, in our opinion. A little goes a long way.

Let us know if you try any of these products and if you’ve found them to be helpful! And if you find yourself overwhelmed by the maintenance of your plants or want someone to just do it for you, we provide monthly services for businesses and homeowners. Feel free to contact us!
