Tell Your Story With Gallery Walls
I’ve always loved the feeling I get when I walk into art museums. Museum curators research and develop an aesthetic that not only showcases the art of the time it’s featuring, but also styles each room to invoke certain feelings.
When you walk into a modern art museum, for example, expect to see minimalism at its finest. With bright lighting, you might see one giant art piece featured on a wall paired with a whimsical sculpture. Another museum brings you into the Renaissance time period, with coffered vaulted ceilings and dark and moody paintings.
One thing that I love that art museums do is the gallery wall. Gallery walls have gained popularity over the years, especially with apps that allow you to download, print and frame photos directly from your phone. While I love a good family photo wall, what I truly love is a gallery wall that weaves the story of the inhabitants of the home. It can showcase your travels. It can showcase a hobby. Gallery walls can be themed, like black and white similar sized prints. Or, they can showcase different shapes and sizes.
In my dining room, I created a gallery wall around a painting done by a Chilean artist gifted to my husband and I from my mother-in-law. I chose paintings of various sizes, shapes and frames and also included items that add interest and texture to the wall. Personally, I love it and get compliments on it all the time.
I like to think of my home as a museum - not in the outdated, fragile and dusty sort of sense - in the sense that each piece is curated and showcased for a reason. It tells tales of our travels, things of beauty, where we started and how far we’ve come.
Gallery walls don’t have to be overly complicated. Simplify it with a smaller number of images. Whatever your design style, gallery walls can enhance and tell your personal story.
