Best Plants for Your Design Style

So you’ve worked hard to design your home into that Mid-Century Modern vibe you love. Or, you’ve curated enough chinoiserie (is there ever really enough?) to consider your design style grand millennial. But do your current plants go with your design style? Are there plants that go better with one style over another?

In the grand scheme of things, and as plant lovers here at Botanicoeur, our answer is always going to be: love ALL the plants. They will work with anything. However, for some, we understand there’s a certain aesthetic you are trying to achieve and if MCM is your thing and you’ve got ferns galore that give off a more Victorian vibe, we’re here to help!

Here are some of our favorite plants for the most popular interior design styles today:

Mid-Century Modern

These plants pair well with MCM’s vibrant colors, graphic shapes, clean lines and muted tones:

  • Snake Plant

  • White Bird of Paradise

  • ZZ Plant

  • Dragon Tree

  • Monstera Deliciosa

Transitional/Contemporary

Transitional style is a timeless aesthetic is that perfect balance of traditional and modern and feminine and masculine. These plants pair well with this timeless design style as long as you don’t go overboard:

  • Succulents

  • Elephant Ear

  • Fiddle Leaf Fig

  • Rubber Tree

  • Bird’s Nest Fern

Traditional

Expect old world luxury with a traditional space. Fabrics of silk, linen and velvet may adorn the furnishings, while walls and window coverings show off damask, floral, stripes and plaid patterns. Its complemented by ornate dark woods and layers of color and texture. Because the style packs a lot of punch, these plants pair well without drawing the eye from the hero pieces:

  • Peace Lily

  • English Ivy

  • Golden Pothos

  • Calathea

  • Peperomia

Modern

With clean lines, geometric shapes and open space, plants that share similar qualities complement this style well. Here’s our favorites for this style:

  • Cacti

  • Majesty Palm

  • Aloe Vera

  • Ficus Audrey

  • Spider Plant

We can’t wait to showcase some of the ways our clients are sprucing up their spaces with greenery.
